Live Astonished Board Members
Scott Elder
In 1996 Scott was a founder of Online Investors Advantage which he helped to take public. After merging with its financial data provider, Telescan Inc., the name was changed to Investools Inc. He was instrumental in facilitating this merger and then securing deals with McGraw-Hill and GE to develop and market stock investing training and tools under the BusinessWeek Investor Workshop and CNBC University names. Investools was the largest investor education company in the world. Each week there were up to 13 seminars and workshops being conducted throughout the world. In 2009 Investools was acquired by T. D. Ameritrade.
After selling his interest in Investools Inc., Scott became a partner in TrueNorth Academy which developed and fulfilled seminars, workshops and distance learning programs. Clients included eBay, (developed and fulfilled eBay University seminars and workshops), Zack’s Research, Investors Business Daily, OptionsXpress and Options House. T.D. Ameritrade was also a client prior to acquiring Investools, Inc. In 2009 True North Academy was acquired by Global Based Technologies, Inc., a company in which Scott was one of the founding investors.
Scott’s entrepreneurial pursuits started after he graduated from Brigham Young University and was unable to find a job. He started a video production company with nothing more than business cards and some novel ideas on how to use video for training and marketing. This lead to joint-venture video marketing deals with companies such as General Mills, Rubbermaid and Procter and Gamble.
Scott received his Bachelors of Arts in Communications from Brigham Young University in 1981 and his MBA from the University of Phoenix in 1992. He is married to Barbara Elder and is the father of four children.
Scott now balances his time between traveling with his wife, riding ATV trails in the mountains near his cabin in Central Utah, riding his mountain bike and hiking the trails near his home in Southern Utah, and developing Live Astonished, a non-profit organization.
With the primary activities of Live Astonished being outdoor excursions and life-skill workshops, Scott’s ability to start and build successful seminar and workshop companies give him the experience needed organized and fulfill the Live Astonished events as well as manage the day to day operations of the organization. Scott has served in several positions in his church as a leader of youth groups age 12 to 18 and single young adults age 19 to 30. He loves working with youth and young adults.
Scott will be involved in the day to day operations of the organization as well as working with the various youth organizations where the majority of the youth to attend the Live Astonished events will come from. He will also be involved in raising funds and arranging the life-skill instructors from the civic and business community. This will be a full-time focus for Scott in which he will average between 20 to 40 hours a week; and sometimes more when researching excursion locations.
